Title: Swiss Machine
Running time: 20 minutes
Directed by: Nick Rosen & Josh Lowell
Produced by: Sender Films & Big Up Productions

Ueli Steck may be the greatest speed alpinist the world has ever seen. Born in Switzerland, he has stormed to the top of the speed-climbing world, smashing countless records on some of the tallest, most dangerous and most difficult walls in the world. Efficient, fast and precise – he is the Swiss Machine.

Stunning aerial shots of Ueli racing up 3,000 metre alpine faces are interspersed with interview footage of the climber telling stories of his incredible record-breaking ascents. Later joining world-class free-soloist Alex Honnold, the two attempt to break speed records on iconic rock face The Nose, in Yosemite. A route that normally takes competent climbers several days to complete, takes these guys just 4 hours and 40 minutes.

Speed-climbing naturally carries many dangers and Ueli Steck is no stranger to them. Taking several falls, Ueli is often reminded of his limits. Accepting the risks of his sport, he continues to challenge the confines of his ability but making mistakes is no option. Focus and efficiency is his game.

Finally, witness Ueli in one of his greatest moments – his ascent of the Eiger North Face. Ignoring fixed ropes, he solos the entire route in a staggering 2 hours and 47 minutes, breaking his own record of 3 hours 54 minutes. Completely unaided, no one has done it faster.

Did you know?

Before Ueli Steck came along, the fastest free-solo ascent of the North Face was 4 hours and 40 minutes.

In 2008, Steck became the first recipient of the Eiger Award – the Oscar of mountaineering.
