KILIAN'S QUEST

Title: Kilian’s Quest
Running time: 11 minutes
Directed by: Seb Montaz
Produced by: Seb Montaz & Dino Ruffault
Kilian Jornet is an ultra-runner. Far from just a jog in the park, this man flies up mountains at incredible speeds, reaching heights of over 4,000 metres and then hurtles back to earth down uneven trails and rock faces. Taking mountain-running back to its routes, this film charts Kilian as he attempts to conquer the famous, mythical landmark of Mount Olympus.
The highest mountain in Greece, it is simply a feat to walk or climb up one of Mount Olympus’ great many peaks. Ignoring preconceptions of what is possible, Kilian charges up routes designed for experienced climbers, running along ridges and sending rocks tumbling away under his feet. Determined to reach the throne of Zeus at almost 3,000 metres, Kilian pounds the dusty terrain with feet that have taken him miles across the earth.
An inspirational athlete, he has won 3 mountain-running world titles at the Skyrunner World Series, all before his 22nd birthday. This is endurance at its toughest, but beautiful landscapes surrounding Kilian make the strain on his body and mind worthwhile. At first an unimaginable scale of athleticism, once Kilian goes through the techniques of ultra-running, he encourages others to aim for his level. Trust us, once you’ve seen Kilian in action you’ll feel compelled to hit the mountainside yourself.
Did you know?
Kilian is also a champion ski mountaineer, a sport which combines Telemark (free heel), alpine and backcountry skiing with mountaineering – in 2010 he won a gold medal in the World Championship vertical race, which focuses on the skier’s ascent.
Ultra-running is a name generally given to sports and events that take the runner beyond the marathon distance (26.2 miles).
