‘Follow that Fire Engine’ is the unique story of a record-breaking world circumnavigation. In 2010, Steve Moore and his crew set out on the expedition to cover 26,000 miles (including 11,000 miles of water) and 28 countries across the globe, but with one big difference… by travelling in a fire engine!Martha, a Mercedes 1124 AF fire truck, was donated to Steve by Dorset Fire and Rescue. His father, Garth Moore, served as a fire fighter in the county for over 30 years but sadly lost his life to cancer in July 2009. After this tragedy, Steve decided to combine his thirst for adventure with a desire to raise money in his father’s name and set out on this global expedition.
The crew of friends (not fire fighters!) spent a gruelling 9 months on the road and this film catches a glimpse of the inhospitable territories, extreme temperatures and bumpy terrain that they covered. Each day they would drive for over 10 hours with only a camping spot wherever possible to rest their heads and relying on the hospitality of the locals when there was no place to pitch a tent.
They finally arrived back in London on 18th April 2011 and now sit in the Guinness Book of World Records as having completed the longest journey by fire engine in history. The crew have so far raised around £120,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, the Fire Fighters Charity and the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation from their 100% self-funded expedition.
